Encrypted Self Destructing folder
I'm trying to find a program that will encrypt a folder on my Windows PC and if too many attempts to crack the code are made, the folder and it's contents will be scrubbed. Does anyone know of such a program?

I've never used it but LAlarm might be an option.

The other free tools I've seen work on USB drives.

They can create a copy before trying to crack it.

They shouldn't be able to if it is protected.

If the hacker has physical access to a standard mass storage device (hard disk drive, USB drive, optical disk) then there is no easy way to stop them accessing/duplicating any of the encrypted data on it. You can slow them down which is essentially what encryption does.

You should understand Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2, e.g. at It specifies four levels of security for encrypted systems. What you want sounds like level 2, 3 or 4 which is serious stuff.

Windows has BitLocker which can provide level 1 protection:

Here's an example of an encrypting drive to meet level 2:

I don't see why people think self-destruction is such a good idea. Not only is it ineffective against hackers (unless the entire device protected by non-wipable firmware or something), and unnecessary with good encryption + password (which will take longer than your lifetime to crack), but anyone (including yourself on say a drunken night) can potentially ruin your data without even physically prying open the computer.
