Default ...monitors running time of individual processes

Hi everybody,
I am looking for simple program that can monitor running time of individual processes over time (so I am able to find out, for how long I have been using some program). But I need it to be able to distinguish whether it was running in the background or in the foreground. (Eg. If I minimize MS Word, it should be able to stop counting it as running).
I am aware of various time-tracking solutions but these are too complicated and/or require online account I do not want to create.
[Commercial reference removed]
but it does not have the ability to distinguish between program running in the foreground and background.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

process hacker might do it, you can click on each process and look on the stat tab to see how long it has been running

but I don't think it logs anything so if you close it or restart computer, it doesn't keep track of it

i use it as a task manager and not everything it can do, I've just see that tab before so I know it's there, don't know "how" to read it though

Thanks for a reply.
The main drawback of process hacker is that it does not create logs.
I use [commercial product], but it does not recognize whether it runs in background or whether it is actively used.
Any other thought?

RescueTime monitors application use but I don't know if the free version provides the information you want. As far as I know, the paid version can be setup to do it.

It's usually the case that process viewers/monitors don't provide the actual time a process spends in the foreground because that is not a standard feature of Windows.

There may be a product that does what you want in the System Monitoring section of the Security list but I couldn't see any obvious examples when I scanned the list.

Have you looked at Process Monitor from Sysinternals?
I'm not vary familiar with it, but I just happened to have a quick look myself this morning as I wanted to know what Trusted Installer was doing.

I finally find one that suits my needs - Gameplay Time Tracker.
http://www.gameplay-time-tracker.info/en/default.aspx
It have all features I was looking for and while targeted on games, there is an option to manually add also other programs.
Thanks a lot for all suggestions.
