Unhappy Free videographer capture/record software needed

I am looking for free/cheap software to capture RAW audio and video to my pc, to edit and then burn it to a BlueRay disk? Are there any good programs out there that can keep a high bit format for both audio and video?

Try VLC it does most things if you delve into it.

On this page you can get the latest versions including portable (zip or 7z x86 only), so you can try it out without installing anything

Do you know whether the portable version is stealth?

I don't sorry, I've never really looked ...

I know it doesn't create certain registry entries which are necessary for Reaper Audio to use it for video playback, which is somewhat annoying and the topic of much forum discussion.

(Edit ... it's stealth according to PFC - http://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=599 - but they aren't always right. I'm guessing though that with something as well-used as VLC, somebody would have commented by now if it wasn't stealth.)

My last reply wasn't published. I don't know why.

Anyway, the VLC entry listed at TPFC is the one from Portable Apps. I do have that version but I am trying to get away from it. Nevertheless, I tested the zipped version which you linked to from VideoLAN and it is not stealth - it creates a folder in %AppData\Roaming.
