Default Movie maker

I am looking for a freeware application that will create a movie with minimal effort, based on a number of source video clips. The source video clips are numerous and long, so I am looking for software that will take snippets at random and create a short clip automatically... similar to how auto summarize would work on a large chunk of text in Microsoft Word

I know it's unpopular because of their business practises (i.e. bundling and pushing paid products, etc) but for my money NCH VideoPad is still the best free video editor available at the moment. And there's no need to get caught out by that if you stay aware of your system.

It won't (afaik) do exactly what you want re; compiling snippets at random, but as far as minimal effort goes it's still the best imho and the easiest way to create a vid from your clips.
