Free backup program
 

I'm looking for a free backup program that can do the ff:

1. scheduled system backup (for bare metal restore) with differential backup
2. automatic cleaning of older backups if the backup destination becomes full
3. back up to native format or ZIP

I think it can do a full backup of files and folders but not a system backup. Also, I'm not sure if the automatic backup feature is the same as automatic cleaning.

Not sure what OS you're using, but Win 7 has a good imaging utility too.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using Win 7. I'm looking for something that can do a image of the system but also differential backups (preferably with an option to store in ZIP or native format) and automatic cleaning. At least the contents of the image and partial backups should be accessible using other PCs, and a "bare metal" restore of the image and the partial backups.

I've tried different free options but could not find a lot of programs that contained these features. The closest so far is Easeus, which can do a system image, incremental backups, and automatic cleaning (no. of days and no. of backups).

You may find what you need with Fbackup. It makes an uncompressed mirror image, but if I remember right the differential backup isn't as good as the others. Give it a spin, you can always remove it if it doesn't work out.

Win 7 does a good image but I don't think you can access it without a full restore because it's compressed.

Isn't FBackup s a data backup rather than a system backup? You can't really restore a working system from it if all you have is a blank hardware.

I haven't looked at the details, but Eases To Do is free for home use I got told today when I downloaded that latest Partition Master.

True but most images are compressed and not accessible. BurnIT indicated wanting access to the system files and that can be done using the drive mirror feature of Fbackup because it doesn't compress the mirror image. The data files are backed up using zip compression which is also accessible.

Unfortunately I don't know of a program that would provide a restored image that is accessible. I guess that's why we have backup and image categories.
