Use Calibre to convert to ePub. Depending on the original PDF, your results may vary.

Jojoyee's suggestion to use Bullzip works really well, creating a new pdf with much reduced size. Thanks Jojoyee.
Bullzip has a dialog asking for file name for the output. On that dialog is a Format dropdown that defines whether to save as PDF or PS etc.
Run {pf}\Bullzip\gui.exe to predefine the output. There is also a setting for whether to show a similar dialog during print or not. You may have it set to PS and not to show the dialog during print, so you don't get to see this setting.
