from the link you gave me i discovered the following about the warnings i received, should anyone else have trouble...

This isn't fake or any form of malware. It's part of Windows Genuine Advantage, a program by Microsoft to prevent piracy of Windows and provide benefits to those who use properly licensed copies of Windows.

To make it go away, click on it and follow the prompts to validate Windows.

For more information, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuine

That's what I told in my previous post... although in a different way.

Most of the people know about it.

a download from the link you provided led me to a tech that said they had not seen this in xp before, i was given a link to install (intel rapid storage tech drivers), upon doing so, and rebooting twice as directed, and retesting computer, i provided results and was advised it had fixed problem. my computer is seemingly running fine, thanks for your help one and all.

may i never forget how to do this again, and may i never need to.

Anupam, if I had of removed combofix as quick as you advised, i probably would not have had this problem. my new lesson learned...pay attention

You were helped by which tech? From the Microsoft forum?

Does MSE still show the Windows validate alert? If not, then it's good that the problem has been solved.

Regarding Combofix, I remember very vaguely, that I might have told you in some other thread not to use it. Well, don't know if it was the cause of the problem.. to me it does not seem so... but yes, Combofix should not be used by novices, as it's quite a powerful tool. It's mostly used in cases of extreme computer infection.
