I'm afraid that this formula works very much different from the formula I gave.

The above formula means picking any 8 adjacent characters randomly from a set of 26 characters given in cell A1. The resulted string will be shorter than 8 characters if the value of RANDBETWEEN is bigger than 19.

Whereas the formula I gave means picking any single character randomly from a set of 26 characters given in cell A1. Do the same 8 times and join the 8 characters together.

A complete list wouldn't have any duplicates and a name could easily be put beside the taken password in a txt or spreadsheet document. And being a complete list the user could choose there own 8 digit password that the remember and using the find feature in the documents could easily see if the password was taken. But storing a 1720GB file is not a option.
I don't think the formula that I gave would serve your purpose. A random number is not unique and can repeat.

Neither do I think that it's a good idea to produce a sequential character run from AAAAAAAA to ZZZZZZZZ. This will generate a huge number of entries, which is power(26,8), 26^8, or more than 208 billion entries.

Try this:

http://www.head-in-the-clouds.com/ga...Generator.jnlp

It's courtesy of one of the programmers at donationcoder.com, it's a java app so it'll run pretty much anywhere, you can ask it to generate passwords in lists or just one at a time, and you can even get it to try for memorability.

Oh, and it will copy your list to the clipboard and if you want to be reading the password over the phone to someone, it'll even create a list of the character names to read. Free, and quite marvellous!
