Default Recovery software advice please

Hi,
Has anyone had any luck with a freeware program that has been able to recover files from a HDD where the partition table is unrecoverable?

Basically, the drive shows up in disk management as unallocated space.
I've tried both Partition Wizard Home Edition and PC Inspector File Recovery but neither was able to find any trace of a partition to recover
It seems other data recovery programs such as Recuva need to be able to see a partition before they can attempt to recover any individual files from the drive.

The HDD is from an external enclosure which appears to have failed completely and wiped the HDD in the process. It was originally used with a Mac but I don't see how this has any bearing on the lost partition table?

Any suggestions appreciated

Hey Sope, have a look at this thread where you yourself suggested TestDisk to someone for recovering a lost partition. Maybe it will work for you. Jojoyee has mentioned the steps to recover partition using TestDisk, in the same thread. Hope this is of some help.

Ahh!!! Thanks Anupam!

I knew there was another one.....my brain's like a sieve lately

I'll give it a try, though sadly I suspect it will have the same difficulties that the other programs had.

If it does not work, then I suggest that you might have to move to commercial or paid software. There is one in particular that I'm thinking of. If you are interested, send me a PM.
