So i defragged my computer today using the windows defragger..i went from having over 3/4 of my disk space free to less than half

I have run disk cleaner several times and deleted the shadow copies..any help? Have no idea what to do and would like my harddrive space back

This is a very common complaint after defragmenting a hard disk. I have seen this complaint more often among Vista users, but it can happen to any version.

As JohnnyDollar asked it would be helpful to know your version of Windows, and the physical size of your hard disk so we know how much space has actually been used.

I am going to bet that it is still an issue with some roughneck shadow copy taking your disk space for a joy ride. Sometimes they just don't want to go away.

That was my guess too. What would you do, resize the shadow storage area through command line?

I am on vista home basic, i dont think i have any service packs installed.

I have 74.5GB space, and last night it went from taking up 22gb to 38..

This appears to have gone down randomly overnight, but still isnt back to the 24gig it was.

Thanks for the help

It was 4am when i posted, seems i was a lil inaccurate with the fractions hehe

Type this below into an admin command prompt and copy and paste the results here.

Right click it on it and select run as admin. One way to find it is in the start menu\all programs\accessories

I'll do a search later and see if I can just give you a link to page(s) describing what you need to do.
