Default Internet Accelerator post problem.

Hi all, installed a program to check out internet accelerators first hand, but it didnt feel right, so I uninstalled it with Revo Uninstaller, now it is really difficult for any browser to connect to the net, also I like Opera v10 but it will not download my gmail.

Program in question was, Speed Connect Xp Internet Accelerator 6.0,

Secunia found nothing, neither AVG, any thoughts/suggestions ?

best regards,

revboy.

According to most reviews on CNET, this software has major issues/problems.

According to one post at the end (possibly from the developer), it states:

in fact, it does SAVE your original settings and you can ALWAYS revert to your original settings with just one click. Also, you can always revert to Windows Defaults.
Did you save your original settings? Did you try reverting to your original settings or Windows defaults before uninstalling? As counter-intuitive as it sounds, it might be necessary to re-install it and then see if you can "revert to Windows defaults.

Thanx kendall, I will give it a try, the darn thing has gummed up my downloader in Opera as well, but I have a standalone download program I can use.
I put my hand up for moderator of Internt Accelerators, I suppose this is a first hand baptism of fire, I didn't save my original settings, now you know why I have such a fitting signature,

best regards,

revboy.

Have you checked the settings in your Gmail account to make sure you have POP (or IMAP) enabled?

These webpages may also be of help :-
POP settings
IMAP

Sorry, can't help regarding the problems with the Accelerator.
Of course, if you used Revo on advanced settings you may have inadvertently deleted some necessary registry entries hence your internet connection problems! I think Revo creates a system restore point though, so you may be able to restore to an earlier working state.

I ran into similar problem about a year ago. My final fix was to delete Firefox all its files and reg entries using revo and do a fresh install.

This was a good option only because I make daily backups using a program called MozBackup.

http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ Bad news is MozBackup doesn't support Opera however you did mention that you use other browsers

I believe this worked because firefox restored its registry entries.

Thanx wdhpr, l will give it a go, l must get into the habit of backing up constantly, it seems a very obvious common sense thing to do. l know what you mean about Revo it seems extremely comprehensive in the way it carries out it's deleting job,

best regards,

revboy.
