I too am confused since only HDD's and not SSD's have a physical operation that is detectable if you hold the case against your ear or can maybe hear it whirring when placed on a hard surface.

The most vulnerable part of this type of connection is where the power cord connects to the case and if this is bent it often breaks internally but then I've never known the indicator light to still be working.

That's exactly the kind o normal reaction the SSD was having.

Why the light keeps staying on is a mystery.

Maybe there's not enough current getting through?

Connecting the drive to another PC should rule out a bad USB port.

Turns out, the casing (that allowed SSD to connect) was defective (open case to the right) and so i acquired another "connector" to plug directly onto SSD (left in picture) which can also serve to plug a hard disk, say, from a desktop (cool!) and it's also usb3!

Think i skipped over and went right to the next one, that, or couldn't figure out what you meant by "caddy".
