Default Is running Linux in Virtualbox safe?

I've never run Linux in Virtualbox but was thinking of trying this as an alternative to dual-booting with a dedicated partition on Windows 10.

Saw GeekOutdoor do it with LinuxMint XFCE on a low-end computer and it did well.
Is it just as secure in doing so?
