Default WPS Files

I came across some old disk made years ago, They have the WPS File extension. I think they were made with Word Pad. Does anyone have any idea how I can open these files? Is Word Pad still in use? I have searched but no luck.

Thanks

Possibly a file format created by Microsoft Works Word Processor.

Most versions of Microsoft Word can open a WPS file but you can also try out an online converter such as this: http://www.zamzar.com/convert/wps-to-doc/
