Default windows 7 restore disc

I am trying to reactivate an old Dell Inspiron 660s desktop computer that I had let my grandson use a couple of years ago, when I turn the computer on it goes into a self repair mode and is unable to repair itself and powers off. I am unable to find the system restore discs, when I called Dell, they were only interested in selling me a warranty, so I call Windows and they told me my only option was to upgrade to Windows 8. I have Windows 8 for my main computer but really wanted to keep this on as a back up with Windows 7, is there anyway that I can download a system restore disc on my Windows 8 computer to restore service on my old Dell computer?

If the computer came with Windows pre-installed then I'm afraid you won't find an official download source. Microsoft does have an official download site but you have to provide a retail key before you can download the ISO. The only option OEM users have is to borrow a Windows install disc from someone they know.

some DELL PCs have the serial number for win_7 on the case,
- is this PC one of them ?.

if so, you can use that to re-install win_7,
- if not, then you will have to buy another copy of win_7. ..
in which case - maybe switch to win_10 ??.
