Did you try running the Windows Update troubleshooter?
This didn't work either.

To check details of the installed memory, there's a WMIC batch file available at Sysnative, it's #24, "wmic memorychip". (72 files there in total.) I use the text file output versions.

#44 will "List Windows Updates/ Hotfixes", which might help you work out which ones you might need, this years updates are listed here <- it's a big list for all supported Windows versions, most recently issued are top, yesterday's releases only contained 3 for W7, you'll be pleased to know . From the KB links given, you should be able to find the direct download so you won't have to rely on WU.

Hello Satrow,

I guess you rarely appear on this forum! You have made a very helpful post. Thank you. I am definitely going to do these updates in future without resorting to WU, even if a solution to my problem is found.

Regards,

I am addressing this to a moderator or the Site Manager. From tomorrow I' ll be away and without access to my computer for 4 to 5 months. When I return is it possible to continue this same thread until I find a solution to the problem, or do I have to start a new thread for the same problem.

Thank you,

Hi, Melita

Yes, rarely here, mostly because I'm busy elsewhere but occasionally because I hit a bug where I can't login here (like a day or so ago, again). I'm a sometime commentard on the freeware site, too.

I try to be helpful but I usually keep it brief, English isn't my strongest suit.

I'll check that I'm subscribed to this topic so that I can keep tabs when you get back online. I hope you enjoy your break away from the current issues

You are doing well enough for me!

That will be great. Right now there is a big disturbance going on among computer users; Microsoft is supposed to be sneaking in software in the guise of updates to prepare your computer for Windows 10. I have seen some of these. Some have even been called 'Important' updates when they had nothing to do with the functioning of Windows 7 or 8. Having blocked updates completely from WU I have no problem. When I get back I'll be able to install only the updates that I want.

Looking forward to it. I'll be in Asia for 4 to 5 months and I am not taking my laptop!

Kind regards,
