I ran Carot in a vanilla Windows 7 installation, and I still have (what I call ... ) a Win32 GUI. I guess it will remain a mystery for now

It seems you are right then. The program is detecting which version of Windows you have and displaying an interface to suit. First time I'm seeing something like this though.

Just when I think I'm getting the hang of CarotDAV I'm running into another issue. I'm trying to create a connection to my Google Drive with Carot and it keeps redirecting me to this page.

As you can see, there are 3 options but none of them even looks that it's for authorizing Carot. I've even tried option 3 in the blind hope that it might lead to authorizing Carot but that turned out to be false hope. I'm using the exact same method which I used for connecting to Dropbox and OneDrive and I can't see what I'm missing. I've spent hours trying to find what's wrong and I couldn't find anything if it meant the hangman.

To crown things off, setting up connections in Carot isn't exactly intuitive either, and if you're stuck like me there's no help file or instruction manual to be found. Nothing, nada, zilch. There doesn't seem to be a way to get help from Carot's developer either. The thing is I do like Carot but I'm so exasperated at this point that I'm seriously thinking of looking at other solutions like MultCloud.

I've now done the only thing left - seek help from Google Drive support. I'm hoping they can help me sort this out but in the mean time I'm open to suggestions.

Please ignore my previous post. (Oh crap. If only there were proper instructions. Lol.) Anyhow, for the benefit of anyone who comes looking for instructions later on, here's what I did to connect Google Drive with CarotDAV:
  1. Sign in to your Google Account. You can also sign in to Gmail here or log in to your Google Drive account here. The important thing to note is you must sign in first before proceeding.
  2. Next, start CarotDAV.
  3. To create a connection to your Google Drive account either click on the New Connection icon in the Toolbar or click on File-->New Connection.

  4. Click on Google Drive in the list of connection options.
  5. If you wish you can give the connection entry a name by typing it in the box labelled "Setting Name".

  6. Click the "Authorize" box.
  7. In the Authorization OAuth 2.0 dialog box, click on the blue link. You will get a Code to enter in box indicated as you proceed below.

  8. Your default browser will open to a webpage on which you have to authorize the permissions for CarotDAV. Click on "Accept".

  9. Your browser will now be redirected to another page with a code. Copy this code and paste it in the box shown in the "Authorization OAuth 2.0" dialog window.
  10. Once you are taken back to the "Connection Settings" window you can click on the "Test" button to ensure that you can connect to Google Drive.
  11. That's it! You have now connected to Google Drive via CarotDAV.
In my own testing, the procedure is similar (with small differences) for Box.com, Dropbox and OneDrive.

This is interesting, your problem with Google Drive seems to be the same as that which you had with Dropbox ... i.e. when Carot opens your log in page you can't log in for some reason.

For me I don't need to be signed in for this to work ... Carot opens my browser, I log in to Dropbox/Google Drive and get taken to the authorisation page with no problems. You are correct that Google has a slightly different authorisation procedure.

I'm a bit non-plussed but still thinking along the lines of it being some browser or add-on issue?

Glad to see you got there in the end anyway.

Yes, I only decided to sign in first as an afterthought. It's strange that it works differently for us. I'm so happy to get it sorted at last. Thanks for all your input.
