Default Clean Install of Win 10 ?

Hi guys; i'm trying to do a clean install of win 10 Preview on my HP DV-5 1254US; 64Bit Intel centrino duo CPU 2.00 GHZ P7350,Intel Video Card 4500HD, and it starts install but asks me for drivers and tells me to insert cd or browse pc,i tried to update drivers but the drivers i'm running Win Vista Home Premium SP2 are up dated, and there are no other drivers for this machine,
this is the same Cpu and hardware of my other Hp Dv-6 1259DX that was running Win 7 and i've upgraded it to Win 10 Preview, and it's running like a champ.

I made a DVD Win 10 Iso from Microsoft,
Any body knows what i should do. thanks

The problem is that published documents suggest that they are not exactly the same hardware.

The first issue is that they are different model ranges released at different dates, i.e. DV5 versus DV6. The DV5 range was apparently discontinued and partially replaced by the DV6.

It is not unusual to find the same CPU and video module used in more than one model but the more important question is how similar the motherboards are. In this case the motherboards appear to be different and HP don't list them as interchangeable parts so the appropriate Windows drivers may well be different too:
The HP DV-5 1254US has part number 504642-001
The HP DV-6 1259DX has part number 518433-001

I couldn't find specs with sufficient detail to compare the two but the photographs show there are small differences in the physical layout of the motherboard, eg. the battery is in a different place.

Your best option might to be use the DV6 Windows drivers on the DV5 because HP have sometimes used essentially the same motherboard in different model ranges. But I don't recommend this unless you can confirm exactly what the differences are.

Did you note which drivers it asked for? If not, please note it.

Also, are you sure you performing a clean install... that is, formatting the hard drive, and then installing Windows 10 fresh? And not performing an upgrade?

Did you check on the HP site for your product model to see if other drivers were there? They are there.

You can find drivers for Windows 7 32/64-bit on this page:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/...985949/drivers

Windows 7 drivers should hopefully work.

Remah, the specifications of both products are here.

DV5-1254US: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/p...r_na-c01792254

DV6-1259DX: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/...ent/c01801126/

Look very similar to me.

The specs you refer to are almost exactly the same but they don't tell you if computers are the same because they don't mention the motherboard.

It is not sufficient to compare all the components (CPU, RAM, HDD, etc) that are added to the motherboard which is what is listed in the specs. You also have to be aware of the electronics that are built into the motherboard, the chipset, which are not included in those specs.

Windows requires a specific set of files to ensure that it can interact with the motherboard chipset correctly. If you don't have the right files for the chipset then intermittent and unusual problems can occur even if you have the correct component drivers. These problems can be very hard to diagnose and they are often the reason why people have to reinstall Windows.

You could have put little more effort in installing Windows 10.. from our replies. You never told what drivers Windows 10 was asking for. If you had downloaded and provided the drivers for Windows 7, it would have worked.

But, you chose the easy, and long way out.

Anyways, it often feels like you post about issues on this forum, and people provide helpful replies, but you just disregard them, and do things your own way instead.

I hope you understand what Windows 10 technical preview version is. If you are thinking of using it as a system for day to day regular use, then think again... technical preview version is not meant for that. It is just for evaluating the system.

Also, if you are thinking of using it as a regular system, and want to open and check emails or other personal things.. do read up on the privacy policy of this technical preview first, and then decide.

And of course, MS won't make you pay for this preview version.. it's an evaluation version, and not for regular use.

Well i said in my statement that i never could install from a clean install,i tried to get drivers but none worked,at certain point just went with the way that worked well.and so far everything running find so far,no issues so far with win 10 preview, and i'm not worried at all l if it's free or not;one thing i'm sure is, i ain't paying for any OPS,i like free, any way here some pic of the drivers that were requested when i tried to make a clean install.

No specific driver was mentioned in the error. Strange. Well, in that guess, I think the way you opted for worked best for you.

Hi guys Today my Installation of Win 10 preview sudden went mad,on my HP DV-5 the one that i had Win Vista and i installed Win 7 from an ISO to upgrade to Win 10 preview, i have virus all over the place,i received messages from MS that there is virus and malware and i should call MS and gave me a Phone # to call, i did not want to deal with it and i rolled back to win 7 and still same thing,so i just made a clean install of the original and legal key Vista sp2 and made updates and now everything is perfect,on my other Laptop DV-6 with win 7 legal key that i upgraded to Win 10 Preview it's working great still.I don't know if MS created this malfunction or not, maybe the detected that i went from Win Vista all they way to Win 10 preview and i was not allowed! who know?

Where did you receive the message, and how?

Never heard or read that MS would give such a message, and also give a phone number to call.

Maybe it was some sort of phishing, or fake antivirus kind of thing, which you might have picked up on some malware ridden site. That seems the most likely case to me.

I don't think Microsoft tracks up to such extent, and that MS would go all the way to create such a malfunction.

If that was the case, MS would do such a thing for all pirated copies of Windows.

On a side note, could you please use proper punctuation in your posts, if possible, and use paragraphs... it's quite difficult to understand your posts without these.
