FireFox BookMarks

I downloaded FireFox on a spare desk-top last night.

I am not at all familiar with it, so have been playing around with it in between other chores.

I have read some tutorials on how to "book-mark" pages/sites, both by clicking the star and also by attempting to drag and drop onto the book-mark tool-bar; I have also clicked book-mark at the top-left of page and used the drop-down window options to book-mark.

Regardless of what I do, I have not succeeded in bookmarking a single page.

When I click "show all book-marks", I get an empty page; clicking the book-mark folder shows nothing as well.

When I open the book-mark side-bar, it is also empty.

I thought it was supposed to be as simple as clicking that star; alas, it sure isn't working for me.

What am I doing wrong or what have I not yet done to make this work ?

Thanks.

BuckSkin, you are doing nothing wrong :).

It's just that you need to do things a little bit differently.

The sites that you bookmarked were bookmarked successfully. However, when you do a single click on the star, the bookmark goes to a folder, which is not visible when you click on the bookmarks icon.

To see that folder, do this. Click on Bookmarks icon, and then "Show All Bookmarks". In the Library window of bookmarks that opens, you should see "Unsorted Bookmarks". Click on that. The bookmarks should be there. When you do a single click, the bookmarks go there.

In the Library window, expand the Bookmarks Menu, by clicking on the arrow besides it. You can create folders there, to organize your bookmarks, which is what I do, because I have a lot of them. To move the bookmarks from Unsorted Bookmarks to Bookmarks Menu, just click and drag.

You can also right click, and choose cut or copy, and paste too.

Now, to directly make the bookmarks go into the Bookmarks Menu, next time, do a double click on the star. Then, it will open up the proper bookmarks dialogue window, and there you can even choose where the bookmark should go.. under the main Bookmarks Menu, or into any folder which you created.

I hope it is clear now :).

It is very clear and I thank you; however, when I show the library window, it is blank/empty; there is nothing showing on any pane of the library window, no folders, nothing.

It is as if the book-marking capability is simply turned OFF.

When I click on un-sorted book-marks, nothing shows.

When I click on book-mark menu, nothing shows.

When I open the book-mark side-bar, all I see there is the word "book-marks" at the very top with a "search" option immediately below; otherwise, the side-bar is empty.

Many thanks.

That's quite strange.

Do you remember doing something that might have caused this?

Bookmarks Menu and Unsorted Bookmarks should be showing in the Library window, when you click on Show All Bookmarks.

Can you post a screenshot of your Library window?

When I downloaded the FireFox, it was when the computer still thought it was 2012 instead of 2014 and I was having all the security certificate issues.

Could it be that that caused me to get a compromised download?

Now that the date/time is corrected and the computer is up and running as it should, how big an episode would it be to just delete the FireFox and download it again ?

Thanks.

From what I remember this can be caused by a database corruption in your profile.

Does this help?

BuckSkin, if this is the case, then creating a new Firefox profile would solve the problem. Its easy, look here.

Or you could also uninstall Firefox and do a clean reinstall, after uninstalling Firefox, make sure the Mozilla folders in Program files and the two folders in Documents and Settings are deleted. After rebooting, reinstall Firefox.

By the way, my XP is a Media center edition, like yours. Nice computer.:)

I followed the instructions and "RESET FireFox"

After it went through the reset motions, now my book-marks are working and behaving as they should; plus, all the book-marks that I made while trying to figure out why they weren't working showed up in the book-mark folders.

Many thanks to you guys for walking me through this.

I hope I don't exceed my limit of questions, as I have many yet to be asked; I wish I had found this place years ago.

Good to know it worked :).

No limits here. Please ask anything that you want :). We are all learners here, and we have learned a lot from this site ourselves, with the help of other members and editors who contribute to the site immensely.
