I am beginning to get the feel of it already. It certainly does not look forbidding. In fact, so far it looks surprisingly easy!

Thank you,

The pepperonis that you see in the Sandboxie pizza slice icon by the clock, means programs are running in the sandbox.

When you close the browser and you see the red X, it means the sandbox contents are getting deleted.

I wonder if it is possible to do the following with Sandboxie. I can't find anything in the instructions.

1. Can I scan programmes or files downloaded from the Internet with Anti-virus, while they are still in the sand box. i.e. before saving them outside the sand box.

2. How can I open web pages in Sandboxie, using shortcuts saved in the Desktop? (If I double click on them they open out of SBIE)

Other settings have been successfully done as you showed above.

Regards,

On number 2. You can have shortcuts opening sandboxed by right clicking the shortcut, Hover over Send to, Click DefaultBox. Or, Drag and drop the shortcut to a sandboxed webpage thats already open. The reason the shortcut runs out of the sandbox when you click it is because you are using the free version.

On number 1. Yes, you can. In my opinion, it is unnecessary (your AV already scanned downloads as they got downloaded) but you can do it if you want to. To scan sandboxed files, go to the Sandbox folder in C drive. Either scan the entire folder or navigate inside the folder using an unsandboxed Windows explorer, find your download and scan it by right clicking it. Most AV scan files OK in there, thats the way it should work. But sometimes, when there is a conflict, they dont. Tell me the AV that you are using now. And the OD scanners that you have.

Noted answer to No. 2. As for No. 1, I am using Microsoft Security Essentials. I don't know how good it is! I don't have an OD scanner and I am looking for a good one.

Thank you,

In my opinion, MSE is the best antivirus to use along SBIE. If you are going to constantly use Sandboxie for all your browsing and only install well known program, never getting installers from dubious sites, you dont need anything else. In fact, in my opinion, it is better to keep using MSE as I know it gets along at 100% with SBIE. And no need for OD scanners either. But if you are looking for good ones, MBAM and HMP. Those two are very good.

The only time really that you should run Firefox out of the sandbox is for updating the browser. I recommend you change the option in Firefox tools>options>Advanced>Update to either Never check for updates or Check for updates but let me choose.

I have it set to Never check for updates but you can set yours to let you choose. Next time Firefox updates and prompts you about it, you delete your sandbox and do the update out of the sandbox. Change settings unsandboxed.

For MBAM, here. Make sure, as you install it, not to select the free trial for the paid version.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

And for HMP. The third installer from top to bottom. HitmanPro 3.7.

If you are going to use this scanners to scan the Sandbox folder, if I remember correctly, HMP wont do it because of conflict. MBAM does it OK.
