Default Google Chrome Hijacked by Yahoo Search

I use Google Chrome and have had the search function hijacked by Yahoo search. I have done malware searches, virus scans, deleted Yahoo as a search engine in Google Chrome settings, etc., but it still keeps changing.

I am not that tech savvy, and could really use some help here. I know there's something unfriendly doing this changing that's on my computer and would like to get rid of it.

Thanks.

Try resetting Chrome preferences (Settings->Show Advanced Settings->Reset Browser SEttings)

Also download HijackThis, do a scan and post the results here. Do not delete any entries

Rlm1951, follow the instructions in this link to clean your computer. It shouldn't be hard for you to get rid of the problem. For the future: Be carefull when you install something in your PC, that's probably how you got this problem.

Thanks for the help. bo.elam - I am careful when I install, but somehow a file got into IE that changed the search engine in both Chrome and IE. HijackThis showed the file and I deleted it. No more Yahoo search.

Default Re:Virus Protection, etc.

You might want to consider the type of virus protection you have. I used to use Microsoft Essentials, but it let Java exploits in; these were even in my backups. Researching virus protection, I learned that Microsoft Essentials only finds 80% of the malware that's out there. At the time, AVG was the best available, finding nearly 100% of the bad stuff that tries to get into your computer. This is what I use; they have a free virus protection program which fills my needs. Another virus protection program has appeared which is supposed to have put AVG in second place, but it works for me.

Default I found something else interesting...

I went into the properties of the adapter I'm using for my net connection and checked up on the TCP/IP v4 and found it was using a DNS server number that I didn't assign. I switched it to automatically obtain DNS and it fixed my issue. If you don't have any of the programs installed that other threads seem to say it is, look at your v4 TCP/IP properties. If you don't remember assigning a DNS IP address, select the automatically obtain option and try again. It worked for me.
