REMAH, the dvd reads, I have not tried writing yet. I tried the registry fix, there were no entries in right pane named "Filters". This is what my registry looks like.

Computer
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_USERS
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

REMAH, would you send an invitation to subscribe to this forum? To all, I make mistakes often, I'm sorry - it's not intentional. I'm ill, last week I found out my brother (4 years my senior), has a Glioblastoma (nasty brain tumor), I know I've confused people, and angered others. Again not my intention. I actually have 2 hands, but the left is useless, in College I typed in excess of 50/wpm, now it's about 4 - 6 words per minute. I'm just asking for your patience and understanding, as I'm sure I will screw up again and I don't want to be asked to leave - please.
I've been on and off this site for 8 years, dialup connection, when I connected at 28.8, I was thrilled!!! My next "job" is to try to fix this PC with a proper backup, then to a vista machine just given to us....

Talking Dell Insp. Continued...

I went to dell and did the system tag scan, It recommended 49 updates, I've downloaded 37 to my desktop. Almost all were in .exe form, the other 3 were for sale.

I did drill down to the spot in registry recommended, and left and right clicked into the right pane, after not finding "filters" anywhere, what am I not doing correctly?

Phil......

Default Looking For ????

Hello all, I'm looking for a freeware app that will Lock away < 10 files and Folders, Looked for hours last night, and most had deficiencies. I just want this app to hide files from reinstalling Firefox. I deleted most visited folder accidentally, I assumed it would empty the folder, not delete it. My ISP is sure that is my problem with there toolbar malfunctioning?

Thanks!

Phil

3. Not sure what you mean.

Re the DVD, I'd like to clarify where the exclamation mark is visible. Is it visible in Windows when viewing the drive properties / device manager, or is it in the BIOS/CMOS setup? I've just not seen it in the PC setup before.

What was the name of the file it tried to write?
Was it a write once DVD (DVD-R, DVD+R) or a rewritable DVD (DVD-RW, DVD+RW)?
Remah, I tried erunt. Installed it, but kept getting errors from it, so I uninstalled it. Would running "Mapping Network Drive", help?
1. I have a copy of registry on USB 2 flash drive
2. Another on the desktop, run>regedit>export (one to flash Drive, another on desktop) the desktop copy - does the desktop registry need a special name?

Thumbs up Still sick Dell Insp. 1501

Again, my thanks to all that have helped!!!
1. I made a copy of registry on a USB 2 flash drive - formatted to ex-fat 32.
2. Made system repair disc on a DVD - R (does anyone know of a page that would explain what media is used for what?) - Thanks!
3. When I did the Dell system tag scan, I was surprised to see System BIOS?
Could a bios/c mos problem be the reason that the driver associated with the Optiarc DVD+-, changes back ad fourth? I have not flashed a bios in over 15 yeayrs!

Again My Sincere Thanks!
Oh - 4. How do I edit my own post, as I do make mistakes?
TWIMC - I think my email troubles are behind me, at least for now.

Keeping the basket away from flame!
