Hello, sorry for absence, but my wife broke her ankle! My requests for assistance may go down, for a couple of weeks.....
Strange occurrences, I won't say who decided to put in a CD, but it happened, and strangely enough, the C:\windows\system32\DVD.sys, driver in device manager, changed to c:\windows\system32\cdrom.sys. I may have missed it, but I'm looking for freeware to backup drivers prior to clean install! Thanks for patience, and help! Phil |

Well, I went to Dell Support to see what Dell thought needed to be updated. According to the Service Tag scan, there are 38 updates which I decided to at least download them, but I had already uninstalled the auto scan application. Well I went back and accidentally downloaded and installed the Asia/South Pacific app.
Now in the BIOS, their is an entry next to Hard Drive where it allows a password to be placed, that now reads FROZEN. I've done nothing yet, I could do a restore, assuming it effects the registry. Phil |

Hello All, yes it appears that I can still download "Dell Updates", however: I now have a more pressing problem. Comcast, my ISP, is hurting in the tech support dept., What I need is the proper windows 7 settings IvP4, IvP6 as these got scrambled after running one of the ms-fix it apps.
I usually use Firefox, however IE 10 yields same results. When I try to access email I gt a never ending circle of blue dots and no error code. Restoring email is a high priority, as my Wife is stopping at Library to keep up with her clients, which is another burden on her, one I' like to remove! Rage against the dying o the light! |

Hello all, it's been raining "Challenges" here. Well the 13y/o e machine running XP, finally died. Which means my wife is using this one minimally...... And I Don't have any back up for it, I do have a newer e machine that dies due to windows update! And just six days left......Spare Parts????
I'm looking for freeware that will automatically clean the registry of duplicate entries. If I disappear again, I'm looking at 3 dead computers.... Still trying for a "clean instal" on this laptop. Thanks ever so much for all the help! Phil Rage against the dying of the LIGHT ![]() |
