Hi, I had a look at their website but I can't see any portable software, just mobile applications.

There are PC/Mac programs which claim to let you run mobile apps in a desktop O/S, but I've never tried any out myself so I don't know how good they are.
Just out of curiosity though, I'd be happy to check out a few and report back in a day or two.

Meanwhile, I did discover that ePocrates have a web-based version of their mobile app which has "...similar features as ePocrates Rx Pro, its premier handheld clinical reference guide, as well as additional functionality and content better suited to the desktop environment."

I don't know if you've looked at that already but it looks as if it would to all intents be a desktop version of the software, all you'd need is a browser and internet access. I'm guessing you'd need internet access anyway for the mobile app as well, as all the info appears to be online and requires registration to access it.

The site is here - ePocrates Online.

It's actually the question of running mobile apps in a desktop OS that interests me rather than ePocrates itself (although that looks interesting too...).

I've found a program called Bluestacks which has some good write-ups and can apparently run Android and all sorts of mobile apps in desktop Windows (or Mac OS), I'll give it a proper try-out later.

it might get above my ability if it,s too complicated, and i dont own a smart phone. i have a genuine need for the program even if i have to buy a smart phone, I, like yourself, read about the program and I cant imagine that somehow it would not be available for p.c. somehow. Thanks much for your help

i decided to revisit the site and its a little misleading since all it really mentions is apps, but the p.c. version is found under the online services button, and once you click it there is numerous free downloads in form of apps and a link to "use online services, with a free download button.

i decided to sandbox everything i knew how to before revisiting site and upon locating free download button i clicked it and it took me to a page compatable for home p.c. use upon free registration, so i now have access to all site features.

i sincerely appreciate and thank you for all of your help.

i have used the site without incident, and its all i hoped for and more
