How to remove Sweetpacks
 

Assistance, please.

My computer is an oldie: 2.66 GHz Dual Core Pentium, 2Gigs of Ram, Windows XP SP3 and a second HDD with Linux Mnt Debian Edition.

My Windows Firefox (not IE8) is infected with the Sweetpacks Virus. Is there a free program (antivirus?) to remove it? Or do I need to use some other method.

We are not a site that specializes in malware removal (AFAIK).

If you have trouble following the instructions in the link posted by MidnightCowboy, I would suggest you register at a specialist site like this forum at Bleeping Computer and seek help. After registering, scroll down to the section headed Security and start a new thread with your request in the appropriate sub-section. Have some patience after posting and someone will guide you through the process.

When I experienced this a few days ago, I found a similar recommendation, the steps work, but on the one I did it recommended ADW Cleaner and CCleaner after cleaning up the browser. Worked for me.

MC's link does mention using ADW Cleaner, although no mention is made of CCleaner. Nevertheless, some of these instructions can be challenging for some people. Also, tampering with the registry in any way whatsoever (which the link says to use ADW Cleaner for) is risky business IMHO. A site that specializes in this sort of thing (like Bleeping Computer) is a safer bet for some people because they provide guidance all along the way.

I used ADW which did remove the virus (trojan) and picked up a few more tracking cookies which neither malwarebytes, antisuperspyware, or Microsoft Malicious removal tool detected. Now my Windows partition is clean, again. But I'm more determined than ever to use Windows XP more infrequently and rely on my Linux Distro.

ADW Cleaner is a really cool program and very efficient IMHO.

Thanks. I did get rid of it. FYI, with the exception of 2 programs I am ready to move from the Windows XP to Linux Mint Debian Edition. In fact, I currently am running a dual boot on my computers with both operating systems.

To get reed of sweet packs is very easy don't need nothing special just go in the control panel install/unistall program and unistall it,then go to to windows program files and delet all the sweat pack files
