For monitoring real-time, you should use WinPatrol : http://www.winpatrol.com/

It's pretty light-weight, and a respected program by all.

Another one is Anvir Task Manager free version, which has other features too, besides startup monitoring.

Be careful in setting it up though, and pay attention to the various options, otherwise it can replace task manager, and also change the hard drive icons.

Thanks for posting these, I'm aware of them both. I currently use [edited out], whose company is now defunct, and I've been testing out a freeware application called Startup Guard as a replacement. They are both single function applications (which I prefer), with no gotchas during install and configuration.

So far, Startup Guard does all that [edited out] does, which is everything I need (monitor and manage). I'm waiting on word from Startup Guard's developer what a paid Pro version would offer that the freeware app does not (about 2 weeks left on their timeline to hear).

I am sorry, but I had to edit out the mention of one of the products, as it's not free. Even if the company is defunct, the product remains commercial, and therefore, won't be allowed to mention/discuss here on the forum.

My mistake. I post at several forums, and I forgot about that prohibition here. Not a problem. Startup Guard is by Privacy Root (PrivacyRoot.com). or from CNET or Softpedia.
