Suggestion Thread: Best Free PC Games

If you do find good freeware games around the web, for the Best Free PC Games article, mention them here.

Most of the ones we play are online, but I will be glad to see if there are any downloadable games.

I was very chuffed to find that Warzone 2100 (RTS game) is now free and portable (at PortableApps.com). I bought that one when it was new so looking forward to revisiting it. The games section at PortableApps has a pretty good selection of free stuff.

I also discovered lately that Total Eclipse (first-person adventure set inside a pyramid, I first played it on my Atari ST) has been ported to PC and is free if you google Ovine Total Eclipse).

^ I just read in the Terms and Conditions here about including links with mentions of freeware, so;

The Dark Mod started out some time ago as a community mod for a very well-known first person horror-adventure. However, it's now available as a stand-alone (and non-install) game with its own engine so doesn't need that commercial game at all now.

It's a first person adventure set in a medieval steam-punk world with lots of great locations and bags of atmosphere. It also features object manipulation meaning that you can pick items up and rotate them, move them around, chuck them around the place etc.

The emphasis is on sneaking around rather than fighting (yes, a lot like another very well-known fp adventure series ;) ) and there are 70+ missions available to download from the site, which describes the game as "stealth gaming in a gothic steampunk world".

Definitely worth a look if you're a fan of atmospheric fp gaming.

Knew this was released, but haven't got around to finishing it because of my hectic schedule but this is definitely going into Best Free Single Player FP/Stealth games list in the article.
