Smile Personal Cloud with Search within Files Capability

Hi, I am a consultant with tons of files that I routinely need to search thru for key words. I have tried storing my files on several "free" cloud storage sites, but they all have a handful of free gigs and I need more like 250 gig. The 2 big problems I have areas follows:
1-Searchable functionality the works like Google Desktop to let me look for key words within various file types (ie:.XLS, DOC, PPT, TXT, PST)
2-Lack of storage space that is reasonably priced

I think my only probable option at this point might be to buy a 1T hard drive and install it on my home wireless router. I think that might let me have access to the files no matter where I am as long as I have a connection to the ineternet. The cost isn't much ($140?). But I wonder if I can search within the files with that approach? Is there a better way? I don't want to get into designing websites and hugely complex methods as I am not a deeply skilled IT person.

Any advice is appreciated.

I would concur with your suggestion in terms of buying a 1 TB external HD. Then, I would install Locate32 and have it index your external HD. Locate32 is extremely fast once indexed. And, it will search for file names and words within files as well. I use it at work to index and search both the public domain/folders and my work files.

I agree with kendall.
I have dns switched before and trying to use a cloud storge site can be slow and expensive.
However, if you can split up these files i would use a dropbox or skydrive account and buy extra storage at a low price.
