I have installed version 4.1.1.0805.
No ask toolbar. I did read the installation instructions. Quote:

Thanks a lot for sharing that link 26Dolphins. Its now clear how people are getting the Ask Toolbar even after choosing not to install it. I had come across similar tactics being used by another software, but I don't remember which one.
These are really shady techniques to dupe the user into installing unwanted software. |
Like Vasa1, I dont have a problem but I dislike all toolbars and will never
have one installed. Hopefully the pleasant experience that I have had with Foxit does not change in the future. Since my original installation, over a year ago, I have always updated from within the program and have never had the toolbar pushed on me. I wish Foxit made it easy to choose whether or not to have the toolbar installed and not hard as it is now. Bo |
Foxit Reader
Foxit Reader has learned from their mistake and now Foxit Reader is back. They also share the code.

Apparently they are very crafty with it too.
Descibed here, along with how to avoid it :- http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/f...r-toolbar.html |
I'm not in any hurry to switch back to Foxit. Since the toolbar installation phase is still exactly as it was, it still looks like a trick to catch out the impatient and the unwary to me. If anything the whole thing looks even worse than it was before, and the fact that somebody has gone to the trouble of creating a tutorial for the installation of a pdf reader minus spyware kind of underlines that for me. Thanks Foxit but no thanks.

My preferred PDF reader is SumatraPDF It's free, fast and works very well. There's also a portable version. |
