Default MSN problem

A friend asked me to sort out her computer and after countless attempts and a blue screen of death i had no other choise but to reinstall her system with the disc it provided and then reinstall all her drivers.

I also took the opertunity to partition her drive and make the C:/ drive for windows and programs and create a D:/ drive for the location of the "my Documents" folder. if its important.

i have checked many websites and other forums to find a solution to the problem but none are helpfull.

i have installed MSN Messenger on her laptop which is running vista. and it installs fine. But when it loads the side bar and asks for the username and password, when they are imputed it says "unable to login error 8000FFFF"
I have unistalled re-installed used registry cleaners and revo unistaller, but i get the same problem every time. It doesn't even appare to go online to sign in. other pages have sugested it a contacts.msi file but have been vage in where to obtain it. and other report of a vista problem 8000fff that dont seem to be anything to do with MSN.

That is the one and only problem i have with her laptop so if anyone could help me please i would appritiate it. As i make many more problems wit my own computer that needs to be sorted. haha

Please try running the System File Checker tool.

-System File Checker (SFC Scan)

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.

2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue

3. At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

I have no idea if this will work or not. I'm not even recommending it. However, I found this on a website; actually it was a Youtube video with this entered next to the video:

For Windows Vista

Go to start,type "cmd" in Vista's Search Box,open cmd and type msiexec /x {B1403D7D-C725-4858-AACC-7E5FA2D72859}
