Angry Google Chrome - Modern Tab Page/Speed Dial sham

Hi,
Twice burned, I write this as a suggestion that the application/extension/theme opportunities offered on the Chrome Web Store needs some impartial oversight. Perhaps someone can review it?
There is a gaggle of extensions available at Google Chrome of "modern tab/speed dial" pages for the user to employ. I just spent several hours over the past 2 days personalizing the "Speed Dial [FVD] - New Tab Page, 3D, Sync page". I chose it after giving about a dozen sites "a test drive".
The consumer reviews that are meant to assist the consumer are not wholly reliable. The extensions come with pop-ups that prompt the user to render an immediate rating and provide a review of the product. The problem is that after an hour, the extension has not been tested enough for the user to be able to offer an objective appraisal.
In my case the extension became corrupt giving me the dreaded "white screen" with the funky icon stating "This webpage is not available ... The webpage at chrome-extension://llaficoajjainaijghjlofdfm ... /newtab.html might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error code: ERR_FAILED"
Once this happens, you realize there is no recourse or means to restore what you have just set up. To add insult to injury, After clicking on a repair option to alleviate the corruption, Google chirps in and warns you that this site can read/alter bookmarks ... change your browsing history ... cause cavities (sic) ... etc.
Well thanks for the warning NOW. Why didn't you tell me this before I became invested in the extension?
I did note that the extension surreptitiously placed a search bar on the page that was not affiliated with Google or Yahoo! (I think the browser was named FD?)
I have been stumbling around trying to find a suitable replacement for iGoogle. I used the "Modern Tab Page" for several months until Google claimed it had too many powers and could take liberties with your bookmarks, browsing history, etc. and would untick the "enable" box a couple of times a week. After putting it off, I finally tackled the task of replacing Modern Tab. I've tried a dozen choices, and have found a myriad of crap out there. The extensions range from dysfunctional to claims that it was "stolen from another developer".
A home page is unfortunately pretty important for me ... I should get over it and use good old Google.com as my home page. Unfortunately, it is just too plain for my tastes. Wasting time with personalizing your speed dials, and losing your work in a blink of the eye galls me to no end.

It's been some time since I've used FVD Speed Dial but I can't recollect if this happened. Even so, just rate it and it'll be gone.

If you didn't get this Pop-Up below during installation, it means that the extension hasn't been installed properly. Which is why you must have got the white screen that you explained. You can't install an extension unless you confirm it after reading the permissions. Many extensions reads, changes data, bookmarks, history etc and it's quite normal.

Moreover after installing the extension, Chrome pops up with a Warning, whether it was the new tab page you were expecting. You need to click Keep Changes before continuing.

If you are talking about this Search bar below , it had been there since a long time. It can be used alternatively to the address bar of Chrome. Earlier it used to provide from another search engine which wasn't really good and had not been getting good reviews, when I installed it today, I see that it now uses the Yahoo Search engine, which is better.

Earlier I used to edit the Search engine from FVD Speed Dial to DuckDuckGo by going to speedial_misc.js and editing it, but it seems that if you do it now, the extension gets corrupted and you got to re-install it agian.

If you are talking about something like this that appears on the search bar "http://fvdmedia.com/addon_search/?q=...m=chrome_fvdsd" before it redirects to https://search.yahoo.com/search?p=yes it's fine, as it just means that you used the add-on to redirect the search to yahoo search engine. But it's safer to use the address bar of Chrome as it will give you faster results without redirecting or recording your searches by FVD.

You need a separate extension to Sync & Save all your work on the cloud, and EverSync is what FVD SpeedDial recommends. Else you have to backup locally and transfer it using Import/Export from the extension General tab.
