Kenith also try turning on DXVA hardware acceleration.

Go to Preferences->Filter Control->Video Decoder->Built-In Codec/DXVA Settings->Tick the checkbox "Use DXVA" under Hardware Acceleration settings and Click OK.

Also update your video card drivers.

George.J,

"Also update your video card drivers"

Did check for latest GeForce FX 5500 WinXP drivers when inherited this PC ~ 5 yrs ago.

Did quick search now and found a driver I do not have. It is " ForceWare Release 90 HD driver with support for the following features: Hardware acceleration of H.264, VC-1 and MPEG-2 HD movie formats."

Also "Video processing improvements are seen in higher HQV benchmark scores."

Does PotPlayer have a video benchmark test?

If No, is there a video benchmark test you can recommend so I can check the video speed of a PC?

Thanks again for your help!!!

Ken

George.J,

Did some rechecking after my last post concerning GeForce FX 5500 WinXP drivers and found that I have GEFORCE RELEASE 175 Version: 175.19 WHQL
Release Date: 2008.07.09 .

Since this WinXP driver is ~ 2yrs newer than ForceWare Release 90 HD driver am wondering if ForceWare Release 90 HD driver could make things worse?

Apreciate any suggestions!

Thanks

Ken

Try updating the graphics card drivers from Windows updates, Device Manager or manually checking on the internet.

First try enabling hardware acceleration within PotPlayer like I pointed to in my earlier post, and check and report back if your video's are playing smoothly.

If not:

I'd advise you to backup your drivers using Double Driver and install the Forceware release 90 which supports hardware acceleration for the video formats. Then enable hardware acceleration from within PotPlayer like I've mentioned before, and see if your video processing is smooth.

Note: Although I'm not sure if Forceware release 90 is included Release 175 for Geforce 5500. If there's no improvement then revert back using Double Driver. I've no idea why it was shown separately on your system for updation.

Also what benchmark tests are you referring to? Is it the video card benchmark tests, or do you want to check the CPU usage etc etc for different movies.

Try right clicking on PotPlayer and go to Playing File Info (while playing the video), that will give you the FPS, Bit rates, Video quality etc.
