Default How can I prevent Vuze downloading new version automatically

I am using Vuze 5.0.0.0 Ever since the new version 5.1.0.0 came out I am being harassed to install the new version. Every time I open Vuze, the new version zip file is downloaded automatically and a pop up appears telling me to upgrade. Even when I delete this file they force it to download again. Is there any way I can stop this forced download. I like to install software only when I am ready for it.

Thank you

I don't have Vuze installed, so can't say for sure, but you should look in the settings. There might be a setting, which will prevent Vuze from auto-downloading the new version. Or, maybe even prevent checking for a new version.

Some software, like Firefox for example, or others, have options whether to just check for update and inform, whether to check for update and download automatically, or not to check for update at all. Might be in Vuze too.

In the event that it doesn't have any option to stop it then you can force it to stop.

Stop access to the download site:
  • Usually easiest to block it through the black list in your firewall.
  • Can also block it through the hosts files.
Stop the update program running:
  • Delete it from disk. You can use a process viewer like Task Manager to identify the program when it is running.
  • Stop the process running. Process viewers and similar programs like Bitsum Process Lasso can allow you to stop specific processes from running.

I believe all the settings for that are at Tools>Options>Interface>Start near the top of the page.

Disable
  • Check for updates when Vuze starts
  • Check for latest version periodically
  • Auto download updates and prompt when installation is ready
  • Automatically open the Update Assistant when an update is available

I also suggest disabling plugin updates at Tools>Options>Plugins>Plugin Update

If you are not experiencing issues, there generally is no need to get a plugin update. On occasion there is a feature added, but that is rare and you can just check the plugin page at the Vuze site.

I have not used Vuze in a while and there may be some other update options hidden around. I will take a look in the next few days and if I find others, then I will post here.

As Anupam suggested I looked for these options but could not locate them. Thank you for telling me how to access them. I have done this and it seems to be working. Please post if you find any "update options hidden around"

Anupam and Remah - Thank you for all the information. They will be very helpful for any future issues.

Regards,

I did not find any additional update items in the options.

However, I did remember something that will help you in the future when looking for a setting in the vast amount of options in Vuze.

When you open the Options dialog, on the bottom left of the screen just above the Save button is a box that says "type filter text". When you type a word or words in there, Vuze will display in bold all the places that word appears.

So, when you type update in there, all the sections of the options that contain that word will be in bold. This will show more than you actually need, but is helpful in finding all related options. The page of each highlighted section will also have the sentence containing the search word in bold.
