Default Loading files to Videopad

I have converted some VHS to DVD and saved it to my computer as a VLC media file (.mpg). I now want to load it into Videopad to edit it. The file size is 4.31 GB.

When I try to load the file I get an Import File popup box, (see attachment) but nothing is happening in the download. Is this because the file is too large?

My computer has Windows XP Home edition.
160 GB Hard Drive.
4.5 GB RAM.
3 gighz Intel Pentium 4.

Another question about videopad, it says it can record from other devices. Will it record from a VHS Player when I use theVHS/DVD adapter that I have.

I hope someone can help me with this as I have several VHS I want to transfer to DVD
Thanking you.

videopad is great but i have issue not unlike this in the past with it, an odd issue i had was the program would never open file on the 1st try i would always have to restart then add the file the trouble was videopad froze up my pc for at least 10minates on closing it to starting it up again, anyway i uninstalled it rebooted and re-installed it and since then it's been working fine, maybe you could try a fresh install of videopad like i did.
As regards with your second question , i don't know but if you connect / use VHS/DVD adapter you have and start videopad the select the capture option ( top left of videopad) shown in the screenshot below
and see if videopad detects it, ( sorry not very technical I know )
