Hi geeks
![]() I´ve used "Revo Uninstaller" for uninstalling some programs, but now many icon images are missing from system explorer (= not displaying anymore), such as: My Documents My Computer My Network Text files (.txt) RAR files (.rar) ZIP files (.zip) EXE files (.exe) Those icons are not displaying anymore. Also, System Restore does not work (XP). - How to restore them without re-installing windows?? Thanks |

Hi Nen, welcome to the forum.
Kind request, please do not make duplicate posts on forum. I have deleted the same post in other thread, and kept this one. What programs did you uninstall using Revo Uninstaller? That might give some idea of what's happening. I hope you did not use the Advanced feature, and removed aggressively, because that might have caused some registries to be deleted, because of which the problem might be happening. About the icons not being displayed... are the programs themselves working, even if the icons are not displayed? Or, the programs are also not working? If it's only the icons, then icons can be restored manually. But, if the underlying programs are also not working, then it's a real issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply (sorry about dupe posts
![]() 1. Yes, I used Advanced feature. 2. Yes, the programs are still working, just the icons not showing. If I can restore the icons manually, then its no problem (but don´t know how ![]() From now on, I will use Geek Uninstaller-, it seems more safe (?). Thanks PS: fantastic site, btw ![]() |

I'd go with that too. I've been using Geek for some time now without a single issue.
To be honest, I never found the XP restore much use even when it was working. ![]() Hopefully someone here can help you to get your icons back. Maybe a repair install is possible but you will need to follow the instructions very carefully and take note of the warnings. http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...rer-44675.html

Nen - try this;
Right click on your desktop, then from the menu click 'Properties' Click the 'Desktop' tab - then click 'Customize Desktop' In the 'General' tab you should see 'Desktop icons', check and select the icons you want to restore to the desktop - then click 'OK' That should get your My Computer - My Documents - My Network icons back. I'm also wondering if you might have somehow disabled the explorer process. If you open the Task Manager and look in Processes, can you see explorer.exe running? |

What deya suggests is also covered on this article :
http://www.ghacks.net/2010/05/06/my-computer-icon-tips/ Report back if it solves a bit of the problems. Maybe someone more expert about the system can tell exactly what has happened and how things can be restored. You did not tell which programs you uninstalled using Revo. Please tell.

MC Folder Size might have been the culprit, since it integrates into the Windows explorer. And since you uninstalled it with Revo in advanced mode, some of the registry entries might have been deleted.
Be careful with using such software, and if you do not understand how it works, or are not sure, then such features as advanced mode should not be used. Or, simply stick to Add/Remove of Windows itself, since in most of cases it works pretty well.

You could try rebuilding the icon cache - e.g. http://smallvoid.com/article/windows-icon-cache.html
