Default Microsoft Skype take over

I'm not sure whether this counts as chit-chat, but Microsoft seems to be buying Skype for $8.5 billion: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13343600

That would be a lot of money for many governments. What this will mean for the future of Skype and free online video calls, I really don't know...

I saw the announcement over on ComputerWorld and my first thought was, "I bet they will drop support for Linux and other competing platforms. But Steve Ballmer was asked about that and he said they would continue to support and develop it on all the platforms it currently runs on. I hope this is true, but who knows with MS. I have a bad feeling that it won't turn out like many of us would like it to.

Microsoft have been blamed for a series of outages on Skype, which some see as a bad omen for the future of the service.

The latest outage was today. Details here, courtesy of a certain Ubergizmo [].
