"Found that nobody can create a FOLDER anywhere on the Computer which can be named as “CON”. This is something funny and inexplicable? At Microsoft the whole Team, couldn’t answer why this happened! TRY IT NOW, IT WILL NOT CREATE A “CON” FOLDER"
Curious, I thought it was a joke but yeah. Perhaps some throwback to DOS. The Bush one in the article only works in some text editors not all. Works in Notepad2 but not Akel. |

My memories of DOS days are fading but as I recall "CON" was a reserved system name used for Console. Other reserved names are PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9. I once wrote an article Naming Windows Files - Restrictions and Limitations

Microsoft knows that MS-DOS Device Driver Names Cannot be Used as File Names but such helpful info is in the DOS support unless you get into Windows programming resources e.g. Windows Development Centre - Hardware - Named Devices Quote:
