Default Desktop Choosing help

Hi guys; i was given a desktop Asus mother board K8U-X Athlon 64 3200 32bit ram 1.5gb with win 7 ultimate..
and i have presently a desktop Emachines Amd Athlon ll x2 250 U 32 bit with Xubuntu 16.04 ,i'm trying to decide which is best and put aside one of them,which one you guys think i should use? thanks

Although newer (2014), the Athlon 64 3200 is inferior to the Athlon II X2 (2013). Depending on the kind of work you have planned, the Athlon II X2 250 can literally be up to 2x faster than the Athlon 64 3200.

So, IMHO, you should put aside the 3200 and stick to the eMachines with the Athlon II X2 250.

Sorry. I stand corrected. The Athlon 64 3200 is from 2004, while the Athlon II X2 250 is from mid-2009. In any case, the performance comparison remains. The Athlon 64 3200 is inferior to the X2 250.

This is also a very good general point about CPU comparisons and especially people looking to buy a new laptop should look very carefully at the processor details.

Here is a good example of one common i5 variant planted into laptops compared to what you could get in a model costing just a bit more (and therefore not be disappointed with the performance).
