Default Save and support Ghacks please

Ghacks is a very useful site run by Martin Brinkmann. He posts really useful and informative articles on the site, about Windows and related tips, browsers, Android, etc. It is one of the sites that I have personally subscribed to in RSS feeds, and I have come to respect the site.

Recently Martin posted this article on the site, which was quite sad to read:

http://www.ghacks.net/2015/02/27/gha...eds-your-help/

Will request people to support this wonderful site by anyway they can. How you can support it on the article itself. If you can donate, then donate. The least we can do is to whitelist the site on our ad blockers.

Such free and informative sites need to be supported.

And while you are supporting Ghacks, please support Gizmo's Freeware too, by donations, or whitelisting the site on your ad blockers too .

That is one reason why I don't ad block. Another reason is that I don't really notice ads. I seem to be able to filter them out when I'm working.

Anyway, it is not too hard to help sites and developers out:
  • On occasion I click through on ads to get more revenue for sites that I like.
  • If I need to install Chrome web browser I always get it bundled with free software I appreciate. I also install it as the default web browser temporarily so the developer gets some more revenue.
  • Some free sites offer paid subscriptions to remove ads. I usually take a couple of those to support my favorite sites.
  • Do some work for a site or developer e.g. help with packaging, manuals or help, or translate into other languages.

AdBlock Plus "acceptable ads".

Advertisement is dying in its current form.
.. ..
Advertisement won't be sufficient to keep this site up and there is not really much out there that I could implement or try instead to make sure this site is not taken off the Internet in the next year.
consider this Point of View:

- there is no cable or *dsl available here
- there nearest mobile tower is 9000m away
- satellite is slow as molasses.

so - it's 3g or nothing. ..
- it's a limited connection connection AKA cheap.
& so - the Adverts are Blocked, - on All my Favourite sites
they can really kill, what is already a poor connection.

SO - my really favourite sites - get supported via 'Patreon' or via P/P.

- Do You Do That - too ??.

This led to sites being closed or put on hiatus (Freeware Genius, Raymond CC, others) because the earnings of those sites would not allow their owners to continue writing for them regularly.

The effect of this was that unique sites vanished which left mostly bland corporate sites to dominate search.

While I, and many others, tried to improve the quality of sites affected by this change, by cleaning it up and following suggestions, it appears nearly impossible to get out of this as you don't know why a site is perceived as being low quality".

Sums it up completely.

Google's stance really has been a sad development for independent sites. Soon the whole web will be dominated by rubbish like Top Ten Reviews that have sucked all the "truth" out of product ratings.

Top Ten Reviews often seems to be the antithesis of Gizmo's Freeware in many categories. Too often the reviews bypass free software that performs better than most if not all the paid software.
