Default Ubuntu Edge

Ubuntu Edge: an Ubuntu phone that you can transform into an Ubuntu PC by connecting to a monitor and a keyboard.

But this super phone will not be made if the project fails.

It would be nice to see this succeed but I doubt they will achieve anywhere their funding target.

I think there's a problem with the proposition - I don't care for 'convergence'. I don't and in fact won't be able to dock my phone and use it at work, and at home I have a desktop attached to my monitors and speakers which is more powerful and will give me a faster and better experience than any small device running a desktop, if only due to the power envelope difference.
Sure, the Edge would use less power than my PC, but I already have a laptop, and I can use that anywhere in my home, not just where I happen to have a screen/dock/keyboard/mouse set up. I don't see where this fits for me, apart from being quite a nice gimmick like having the samsung docks for their phones which just puts Android on your screen.
Now Ubuntu Mobile looks interesting, and a fast, responsive phone with a sapphire crystal screen, and masses of storage does sound like a good proposition, and blows other phones out of the water. - So long as there is a podcast handling app on it I would be very happy (or just stick with android). And it's actually reasonably priced (or was), but they haven't pushed that angle. If it was for a straight Superphone - with the screen, the storage, the RAM and vanilla android - I think they would've raised a similar amount of interest.
Don't get me wrong, I support the campaign, and if it means manufacturers take notice of ubuntu as a system that would be good, but I wouldn't exactly be devastated if I had a 400 refund land in my account in 20 days".

They are at 8,3 million USD right now. Not much if you know that a Veronica Mars movie project asked for 2 million and got 5,7 millon on Kickstarter.

Still not looking to good, although they have surpassed the previous crowd sourcing record.

Have they even developed it?

Or is this another "if you give me 100 million bucks, I will make you a Death Star?" i.e. they promised all this good stuff because they knew in advance they won't reach the goal?

Even if they end up returning all the pledges, will be a nice bit of interest to keep under their bed.
