Default Program that will join two video clips YET keep the higher quality of 2nd clip

Hi there,

first time poster, so hello to everyone

I am looking for a program that will join two video files, ie. splice the end of one directly to the start of the second to create a single file that runs immediately and cleanly, without any pause, so that they can be saved/exported and play through as one file, EXCEPT! I need to program to retain the settings and HQ of the higher quality of (in this case) the second file. I am clearly not asking that the lower quality file be brought up to standard. Frankly, that can stay looking like a dog's dinner, if need be.

Now, I've tried/am using the very obvious Quicktime, and no matter how I try to bring the first file up to par as a way of trying to meet some degree of quality of the second file. it's a bit of a ropeyish old file the first one, but I've worked on it in every way possible. I've sized it correctly, made it behave correctly in terms of aspect ratiom, just generally tried to make it communicate as well as possible with the second high quality file... HOWEVER, once I join them, export the project, then view the new complete file, there is some real considerable loss of quality in the second (ordinarily) very high quality file. It kind of downgrades to meet the first file almost halfway.

If there is ANYONE who could recommend some software or merely offer some foolproof settings to use in Quicktime in order that this doesn't happen, I would be a deeply happy man.

I couldn't give a toss about the quality of the first file... I just don't want this downgrading which occurs when the second file starts in the exported file.

Thanking you so much in advance.

What a great forum!
