crank, I have similar experience as yours. I have been using Seagate drives since the beginning, and it was an excellent brand in the early years, but since last few years, I too have lost a couple of drives. And they failed so badly, that it was really quite an effort to take my data out of them. I lost quite some amount of data because of the failed drives. And now, I am have seen two drives gone bad of my friend... that's why this time I want to go for other brands.

Also, there are an increasing number of complaints regarding Seagate drives on the internet at various places.

Seagate drives are hugely popular in India, and the people at shop themselves say to buy them, and earlier I did not have so much of idea regarding other drives. But, thanks to suggestions from here, and other forums, I now have a good idea.
