I did used to use one on my old desktop machine, and memory was freed up, but only a few megs, and i used to run it pretty lean anyway so who knows if it was really worth bothering. My laptop has three gigs of ram which is more than plenty for my needs, so i see no need to even try a memory optimiser on it.
