I just got an old iPod from my brother. So, I got the chance to check out the various iPod managers like Yamipod, EphPod, SharePod etc. Of these, SharePod is the one that impressed me, and I have kept it, and discarded others. All others had some shortcomings, or required QuickTime, or iTunes to be installed. I found that ridiculous. Why would I use the alternate software if I have iTunes installed on my PC.
Sharepod does not require QuickTime or iTunes to be installed, and it can act as a standalone iPod manager. Its quite good to transfer music to and from iPod. But, it cannot be used to manage videos/movies.
iDump is quite good to back up the iPod.
