I believe that your suspicions are correct regarding the way in which these extensions work. The ads are not blocked from loading,.. just "erased" or "hidden" from the page so I don't see them. If that's how they work then I guess I'll accept that as fine as long as it doesn't impinge upon the speed and efficiency of Chrome which is why I use it as my default browser.
You are right about that. The downloading issue is primarily a problem for those with limitations of internet usage. If someone has an "unlimited" broadband plan they needn't bother about the downloading aspect.
