To tell the truth I was a little disappointed in Mint 8. Not from the functional perspective, as it has worked very well for me, but more from the aesthetic perspective. They claim elegance, but the last default graphics were really awful in my opinion. Having worked in the graphic design industry for many years, I felt like especially the default background broke all kinds of design rules. (To many different elements, and three strikes your out) If it was just the wallpaper that would not be much of a problem, but since they also used it for grub, and at login, and resume screens which are not easily changeable I felt it was over the top. Ubuntu's default graphics were much more aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake again.
The smallest good deed is better than the greatest intention.
