@J.L - What's the system specs? The higher they are, the more the choices you'll have. TrueCrypt and JDownloader are both open source and have a Linux version. At JDownloader's download page (here: http://jdownloader.org/download/index), there is instructions on how to install in Linux. In TrueCrypt's download page (here: http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads), there's no instruction so you'll either have to install from source or download the .rpm or .deb file to install assuming that they are absent from the package manager. You won't have to worry much about that yet.
