Perhaps it's more in relation to the total size of a hard disk? IMO, if a hard disk is big enough, I don't see the reasons for not having more partitions so long as each partition is assigned to a sufficient size for its specific use.
I done some more reading on the subject. It seems the majority of opinions agree with you. Still I have decided to go ahead and buy a external usb drive, Image my Winxp and linux OS's. Reformat the pristine windows partition and have a party on my second internal drive with no fear The benefit will be no slow downs experienced in using a virtual drive. I have been itching to test drive 4 or 5 or even more linus distro's
