No. The free version of Malwarebytes does not have real-time protection, and it does not start with Windows or run all the time. If Malwarebytes starts automatically on your system and runs all the time, then you have the trial. At the end of 14 days the trial will run out and Malwarebytes will revert to the free version.

During the installation of Malwarebytes you don't have to select the trial - the trial is already enabled by default. The option for the trial is at the very end of the installation so it is easy to miss if you aren't paying attention.

Incidentally, just yesterday I reinstalled the free version of Malwarebytes and it does not start with Windows or run all the time.
