Details

Emsisoft Anti-Malware Home is a good choice to scan and remove malware, especially trojans and ransomware from your PC. It removes banking-trojans containing backdoors/bots, keyloggers and diallers that can make it dangerous when conducting banking and completing any other financial transaction online.

Other than trojans, it also can be used to recognize and remove spyware, adware, tracking cookies, worms, rootkits and PUPs (potentially unwanted programs) from your PC.

Designed for ease of use, this program has two scanners, one of which is Bitdefender, to cut down on unnecessary double detection routines for one and the same malware. Further, it can scan faster than just one single scanner and therefore, is more efficient with regards to system resources.

Any suspicious file/s can be uploaded to Emsisoft for analysis: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/support/submit/ and also, you may find their forums helpful: http://support.emsisoft.com/
Features such as quarantine, online updates and heuristic scan for unknown malware are included.

There are 3 scan modes: Quick, Malware and Custom.

Quick scan, will just examine active programs for traces of malware and as the name suggests, is very fast; Malware scan will take a little longer and looks for malware in the most common places on your system; Custom scan, depending on the size of your hard drive, programs installed etc will take the longest to complete and is a full scan of your C drive.

After the trial period you can either choose to buy a full version license or switch to the limited freeware mode. The freeware mode still allows you to scan and clean infections, but it doesn’t provide any real-time protection to guard against new infections.

In other words, the free version does not provide other features such as Real-Time File Guard, Behavior Blocker, Anti-Ransomware and Web Protection & Browser Security.

When it’s not possible to install EAM Home (eg because a PC is already infected) there is a free, for personal use, scanner called Emergency Kit. This is portable software and simply needs to to be put onto a USB stick as it doesn’t need to be installed on the hard drive of your system.
